Agree on last posts, if Real M want him more than likely they'll get him so we need to max as much as we can get for him. Likewise even if we get 50 mil that doesn't guarantee replacing him for an equally able, talented or good fit for us as a replacement. We could spend the whole lot on a direct replacement and he might hate london & not perform or just not be the same. Look how many big money flops the workd has seen.
We'd have to be extremely cute with the cash,no guatantee we'd get our targets or that they'd be right. So keep at all costs bar him actually being determined to leave... then ofc no point in holding on

It would be gutting if we had to sell Payet, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.I would expect us to only accept though, at the very least , 30 million.
We are not a one man team and we are heading in the right direction as a club.
Tottenham sold Bale, spunked the money on a load of shit, and still manage to progress as a club.
Just remeber that folks...

Mark my words. Payet will be playing for West Ham next season.

He won't go for anywhere near 50 million.
All it will take is for him to say he wants to leave, and the Daves will get no more than 30 mil for him.

Take the silly money and get Modric as part of the deal. He is good but if, and that's the question, they offer 40 million for a bloke who is 29 you can't turn it down. Still don't think he'd want to go especially if Ronaldo and Bale are still there as he wouldn't get a look in when taking free kicks

Considering we got £18m for Rio Ferdinand 16 years ago, he was only a defender and it still completely de-railed our club, how much do you seriously think it's worth to lose the best attacking player we've had in years? £50m? £70m? £100m?
Ok he's a lot older but there is so much more money in the game now. It's not worth the risk to the momentum we've built up with him at the club.

Real will make it happen if he is their target. Payet is 30 next year. Everyone has a price. Football is big business now. As long as we get compensated for what he is worth. £50m+ we can then bring in some decent replacements.
He would be missed though terribly, best player since Di Canio and they only come along once in a while. Age is the key, how long can he go on at his current level of performance and without injury? Payet may think the same and take the huge salary increase on offer. We can't compete with Real and you couldn't blame G&S if he goes for silly money.
Payet's performance in the Euro's will be key, if he has a good one expect him to be gone.

We have a CL quality player, playing in a non CL side, possibly not even Europa. No amount of money will be able to replace him. Out unfortunate lack of success after such a great season may deal a double blow. Our star players wanting to move on and our transfer targets not interested in coming. Passionate players who live and breath football want to play at the highest level. At 29 this may be his last opportunity to do that.
It's going to be tough to hold on to him if he does decide to leave. He will be sold at a premium and that money needs to be spent on strengthening every area rather than finding an out and out replacement. As has been mentioned about Bale and Suarez, this doesn't always work out.
Hopefully he enjoys it here as much as it seems he does and he appreciates that we will be pushing for CL next season, something which he wants to be a part of and achieve with the club, rather than running off at the first opportunity to do it with someone else.

What a surprise to see you spin a transfer rumour into a negative about the club and throw in the OS as well.

Still reckon Mahrez is a better fit for them and they know it, for all sorts of reasons.

Absolutely want him to remain a Hammer but a bid of £50m+ would be difficult to turn away. If the worst comes to the worst sincerely hope the money is spent wisely, this 'we want a £30m striker' nonsense from DS is about as bad a negotiation strategy as you can get.

Not many players would turn down real Madrid Even fewer clubs would turn down a 30million profit on a 29 year old

I'm quite relaxed about this tbh.... if he stays, all well and good, if he goes we get 40m.
As long as it's reinvested wisely then we would progress.
FWIW I don't think he will go... having signed a new 5 year deal on good money Payet has basically said that it's up to the club as to whether they decide to sell him or not.

Their transfer policy is shit, rather than buy what they need they just buy the 'star' of the moment. That's why they have won fuck all in comparison for money spent since 2002 and Ronaldo has ONE league title.

Real want De Gea, that will cost them at least 39 million apparently, then there's Dybala, I have no idea what he will cost, now I know Real are awash with money but are they going to pay at least 40 million for Payet on top of all that?

I think he enjoys being - the- man.
With what he came out and said about the song etc.
I don't think he silly enough to think he would be that at Madrid.
And with all Madrid can offer, they cannot offer that.
Never say never but I would doubt this has legs.
